Modern technology offers society many amenities, from Wi-Fi and cell phone ever smaller laptops that make our whole life portable low power washers dryers that use half the power and the time to complete their tasks. But these new toys and gadgets leave behind a trail of obsolete devices, unwanted.
Everything is electronic waste and includes everything from printer cartridges empty ink broken refrigerators. As people buy new items to replace aging and out electronic updates, more electronic waste is generated. In some cases, as in 2009 to move from analog to digital television in the United States, technological changes are so large that old equipment can not even work at all with the new systems.
There are many reasons why it is important to recycle e-waste. Much of the material used to manufacture electronic products, including metal and plastic can be recycled into new items at a fraction of the cost and use of energy needed to create new things from raw materials. Moreover, many electronics contain toxic substances that are harmful to the environment and could be catastrophic if leached into groundwater in a zone. For example, television tubes containing mercury, which is known to be extremely toxic. When properly recycled e-waste is stripped of all toxins and other harmful materials, which then properly and safely disposed of. Because of those environmental concerns, many areas require by law that electronic waste recycled properly.
